Compak grinders

If you only have budget for one upgrade, make it the grinder. A great espresso machine behind a tired grinder makes ordinary coffee; a good grinder behind a modest machine makes coffee people come back for. It is the single biggest lever on how your espresso tastes, and on how much coffee you waste dialling in.

We supply Compak alongside our Slayer machines and our coffee, so the whole bar is specified together. Every model below is in stock to order — click a model to see its full specification and price.

Which one, honestly

  • Under 2 kg a day, or you need a decaf grinder: i3 Pro or i6 Pro. The i3 is small enough to sit beside your main grinder without taking the bar over.
  • A busy independent doing up to 5 kg: i8 Pro. The 83 mm burrs and the price make it the value pick of the range.
  • You want a screen, presets and a tidier bar: E6 or E8. The E8's Lock & Load means burr changes and cleaning take minutes without losing your grind setting.
  • You chase precision and change coffees often: F8. The micrometric adjuster and live micron read-out make going back to a setting reliable.
  • Queues out the door: BOLT 83. Pre-dosing plus on-demand in one grinder, so the next dose is ready before the barista is.
  • Filter programme or a lab bench: PK100, in Shop or Lab configuration.

A rule of thumb worth more than any spec sheet: buy a grinder rated well above your actual volume. A grinder working at its limit runs hot, and hot burrs make the coffee taste flat by mid-morning.

Options worth knowing about

  • Red Speed burrs on the E-series, F8 and BOLT — faster grinding and longer burr life, at extra cost.
  • Colour: black as standard on most models, white on some, and a factory RAL colour match on selected models at no extra charge. Worth it if the bar has a colour scheme.
  • Hoppers: 700 g, 1,250 g and 1,800 g options. A 400 g or 700 g hopper looks better on a small bar and keeps beans fresher.
  • CUBE auto-tamper (£1,002 inc VAT): 2–38 kg tamp pressure with a levelling system, if wrist strain or inconsistent tamping is a problem in service.
